EOYS Display Process

The image below was the layout we as a team finalised and agreed upon as our ideal display concept for the End of Year Show.

As the time for setting up the show approached, we, along with the other teams and projects, have been able to paint a picture of the final layout and design of the room.  Because of this, as teams, we are now able to discuss where the best possible layout out, not for each team, but the best layout that highlights everyone's work in the best way possible.  A design that is both organised, yet effective for the purpose of the show.

It was decided that we, along with two individual projects, would share the separate room space that we assumed we would be able to have to ourselves.  Because of this change, we as a team had to rearrange our design to implement these changes and plot out our next move for how we were going to present our project.

After spending a day moving and adjusting equipment, we as a team set up four Macs on the two tables we will be using for our EOYS display.  After plugging in our equipment, Cassie set up the VR layout.  The distance between our tables and the VR set up is detailed below in the images shared.

Following the set up of our equipment, we set about ruling the walls, framing our renders, applying mounting material and then beginning to piece together our display wall in an attempted system of symmetry and order...we aren't sure if it can be described as that!

After applying 18 frames to the wall, we were quite pleased with our set up, and turned to adding props to our VR table.  We want our users to be immersed in the space, but also be slightly freaked out that the table in front of them physically, closely resembles the table they will observe virtually.  We also mounted the poster designs created by Cassie on the wall in front of the VR space.

Below are two of the renders that feature on my environment focused side of the wall.  Due to not having boards to easily split and distribute space, we decided to display our renders in an order that spoke mainly of the contribution of the person that is promoted below it on the Macs, CVs and business cards.  The order being, environmental, characters, rigging/animation and effects/glitches.

Posted below is the right side of our set up that features the workflows, showreels and renders of work completed by Lorna and Cassie.

And the left side of our set up that features the workflows, showreels and renders of work completed by myself and Megan.

Below is the distance between our VR project set up, and our EOYS table set ups.  We are happy with this set up and distance and hopefully it allows users to experience our project as well as allow people to gather around our tables to see more of the intricacies and complex nature of this project and our other creations in our showreels.

We marked out a safety space so that people are aware of the VR space and aren't intruding or altering someone's experience of the piece.  This is necessary with health and safety as we have tripping hazards and people immersed in a scene that if startled or accidentally disturbed, could cause a health issue or panic.  We have ensured a safe distance for both users and observers of our project.

My set up can be seen below including my showreel on loop play and my CVs and business cards at the ready for distribution.  I aimed to maintain a consistent and integrated design across all of my medias to ensure my work compliments itself well.

Below is the final layout for our team tables.  We are extremely happy with how it came together and how we successfully presented this amazing collection of our work.  Now, it's over to the industry professionals and members of the public to have their say on the 6th and 7th June!  We look forward to introducing them to their happy place soon!

CV and Business Card

Before heading into the big bad world of employment and potential freelance work, it is essential we leaving Undergraduate level with a professional portfolio of components we can use to sell our skills and help put us on the industry map to propel us towards a future career. This is in regards to two main pieces of self promotion.  The CV and business card.  It is important we have these designed, printed and accessible on the night of our end of year show so that company reps, directors and other industry members can view our projects and then take something tangible away from it to remember who we are and what we are capable of. When it comes to CV, I have always been taught through my years of business orientated education that it is simple, clean and not overly creative.  I was always taught that colour is tacky, images are resented and icons are acceptable but need to remain minimal.  When I approached this initial design stage of an updated and a...

EOYS Finalising

As the End of Year Show grows closer, a lot of effort and thought have gone into promoting it, sending out invitations and getting things ready for the big night on the 7th June, 2019!  A huge hats off has to go to the amazing committee that have worked so hard to facilitate and make the night happen.  With their fundraising, planning and design, our End of Year Show, is sure to be a huge success and great celebration of all of our hard work! Personally, I have enjoyed helping out with my classmates preparing the rooms for the night.  Painting, moving and rearranging the rooms so that each team/personal project has a good place to showcase their amazing achievements.
